Who’s running against Beutler?
Since Tuesday’s election is going to be such a snoozer locally, is it too early to begin speculating as to who might run against Mayor Chris Beutler in the spring municipal election? Not at all.
As one political consultant told me about a month ago, any viable candidates should have their ducks in a row NOW.
So… based on some of the names I’ve heard thrown around as prospective candidates, what do you think? Let’s vote:
By the way, Mach told me a long time ago (the first time I heard his name bandied about) that he’s not running; Camp and Spatz won’t say if they’re running, and Foley has said he’s not interested. I’ve also heard people talk about Tony Fulton, but another reporter asked him about it some time ago and he said no.
And since the “other” nominations don’t show up when you look at the results, I’ll tell you who they are so far: Patte Newman, Deena Winter and Shawn Traudt. If Patte decides to run I’ll be her lieutenant… but I’m pretty sure she wouldn’t run for mayor for a million dollars!

John Spatz is as bad as Beutler. He voted for the arena and Experian purchase and other
stupid issues.
Jane Kinsey for Mayor (lol)
I agree with Jane on Spatz. All the people on the list will bring the same-ol-same-ol to the city. We will have dreamers who want more arena projects, that we can’t afford, won’t hesitate to remove the state capitol out of Lincoln because the university wants it for some project. All those on the council need to be replaced along with the mayor, we need to have someone who will fix the streets first. What we have here in Lincoln is Washington DC on a smaller scale. Lets buy the Experian building for $6 million, and spend another $5 million to renovate and move the offices, why, when we have a building we already own sitting on 9th & “K” street which holds records that could be used by the city. They say it’s filled with records, copy all those records and put them on the computer, save the ones deemed historical and burn the copied files. Yup, this is our city, spend, spend, spend on items that we really don’t need. Some think I just like to complain, not so, if we had people in government who use common sense and logic in their dealings and do what’s right for the taxpayers, I could finally rest. I voted for Mike Foley, now there is someone who is tight with a dollar, and then wants to know where it went.
