Newcomer to challenge Cook for council seat
A member of the Lincoln Independent Business Association announced during a LIBA luncheon Tuesday he’ll be running for the Lincoln City Council seat now held by Councilman Jonathan Cook, who represents southwest Lincoln.
Travis Nelson — a Bloomfield native who works in construction and describes his political leanings as conservative — said he intends to run for the seat Cook has held for a dozen years. Nelson is listed in LIBA’s directory as being part-owner of Nelson and Sons Construction in Lincoln. The Lincoln Journal Star has reported that Cook intends to run for another term, but Cook has declined to comment for Winterized, saying only that he’ll announce his intentions in January.

Who is Travis Nelson?
Go for it Travis!! It is nice that everyone running should have someone running against them, keeps them honest. But do not run on bashing the unions, lower taxes, new jobs etc. Run on providing basic services, snow removal, better roads, parks and expanding 27th street for the good of the whole City not just the Country Club. You just might have to run increasing taxes. True property taxes haven’t been raised in over 20 years, actually they have been lowered.
Who is Erin Loeffner?
This Travis Nelson is the latest poor sap that Mark Fahleson has recruited as a sacrificial lamb. If you remember 2007, Jonathan Cook faced a real opponent that had been endorsed by Bob Kerrey of all people, and Cook creamed him by 30 points. This should be a snoozer election.
