Four businesses demolished on downtown block to make way for parking garage, condos
Have you been downtown lately? The old brick building that once housed Chipotle, Cold Stone Creamery, Valentino’s and Quizno’s has been demolished, as construction continues on a $27 million redevelopment project called Urban 38. The city is building a parking garage on the bottom and developers WRK of Lincoln and Woodbury Corp. of Utah are building condos above. Retail is supposed to return to the ground floor eventually.
Meanwhile, Chipotle has reopened in a new location two doors north of Noodles, on 14th Street.
We can hope that this time there will be a successful development. However, with the past failures, I advise Lincolnites to not get too excited.
But WRK is involved. What could possibly go wrong?
Long live the Skylight Bistro!! Why do they keep making Lincoln worse?
the correct name is: block 38 llc is the pot right ? is all the bond money in place?. this will be the most expensive per parking spot yet built by the friends of the current administration. I believe woodbury contributed 40,000 dollars to the arena pay to play party.
the are three way the become weathy: inherit, work hard and save,or take someone else money.
Of Chipotle, Cold Stone Creamery, Valentino’s and Quizno’s, Valentino’s is the only one that could be considered to be not a chain. Even considering that, Valentino’s already has alternate locations in Lincoln and Omaha so there wasn’t much of a loss.
It was much sadder when the Starship and Taste of China had to leave only to be replaced by a parking lot for years. Compared to the parking lot, seeing cranes assembled today was a great relief.
