Where’s Ben hiding? Americans for Prosperity wants to know

by Deena Winter

U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson

Americans for Prosperity really, really wants to know where U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson has been “hiding out” in Nebraska during the August recess.

So much so that the conservative group has scheduled three “Where’s Ben Nelson?” rallies this week — in Omaha, Lincoln and North Platte — to highlight the fact that while the other Congressmen have been holding public appearances all month, Nelson has been skulking around without giving the public advance notice. The better to evade potentially nasty public exchanges?

Americans for Prosperity thinks so.

“Senator Ben Nelson continues to hide from the people of Nebraska. While he has been traveling the state this month, citizens from Scottsbluff to Omaha read and hear about his visits only after he leaves town,” said AFP-Nebraska State Director Mike Friend. “It’s time for Senator Nelson to start practicing the principles of transparency and openness shared by his colleagues and the citizens of our great state.”

Here are the rallies:

Lincoln Rally
What: Where’s Ben Nelson?
Where: Antelope Park, Lincoln, NE
When: August 23rd, 2011 from 12:00-1:00pm

Omaha Rally
What: Where’s Ben Nelson?
Where: Walnut Grove Park, Omaha, NE
When: August 23rd, 2011 from 4:30-5:30pm

North Platte Rally
What: Where’s Ben Nelson?
Where: Centennial Park, North Platte, NE
When: August 26th, 2011 from 12:00-1:00pm

    Deena:

Just so we’re all clear about Americans for Prosperity, they’re the mouth-piece for the Koch boys and their oil and gas pals that helped drive the American economy into the dumpster. We could certainly use the sage advice from a couple of billionaires from Kansas to set us straight here in Nebraska.

The people in Americans for Prosperity are all independent thinking Americans, no one controls them. The American economy was destroyed by the Democrats in the House and Senate thru Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac and their selling out to OPEC, the countries that controll the majority of the worlds oil supply.

It will play out – it is what it is. Although I don’t particularly like Ben, I also don’t like the alternatives. He’s an ex-insurance exec, and he had nothing to lose by voting against the debt ceiling. It’s all political maneuvering (i.e. the polls, both parties). They all have better insurance than middle class Americans. Although I don’t agree w/Ben on a lot of stuff, I also don’t want to label NE as a totally Republican state (Red). I wish we could get over politics and do what’s best for NE, no matter what party you belong to. I know, that’s being idealistic…….I just hope that people do their research and not base their votes on what they see on TV, and/or what they read, if they only read local papers…..

While the “Where’s Ben Nelson” rally was being held, Ben was at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital, helping to introduce a new rehabilitation device that will help people regain their ability to walk. Shame on Ben for hiding out among the sick and injured, many of whom are on Medicare and Medicaid, sucking up those federal healthcare dollars. It’s all government waste until you need health care and then people are outraged if they have any out-of-pocket expenses.
